Illumination
A 20-minute documentary film that explores the work of critically acclaimed poet Kiriti Sengupta. This film, Illumination, illumines the audience about Dr. Sengupta’s poetry and poetic contributions over the past ten years. The poet is the actor impressing his journey from being a reputed clinical tutor in a government medical hospital to a poet with several foreign literary publications, interviews, and widely reviewed books. He makes a critical remark in the documentary refuting poetry as a tool for change. Such exclamation invites the audience, particularly the Bengali literati, to introspect their idea of poetry as the first tool of revolution.
Illumination has been cinematographed by Raktim Mondal and music by Joell Mukherjii. But, unfortunately, shot in the mid of February 2020, the film could not be released as planned due to the Covid situation. So, the documentary is finally reserved for release on the YouTube channel of Hawakal Publishers on October 6th at 8 am (IST). Promita Bhowmik’s Illumination shot in the premises of Nimta Health Center that once housed a recycle plant invites documentary lovers to explore the assembling of a poet in his ruins. Illumination was a Finalist at the First-Time Filmmaker Sessions March 2020, managed by Lift-Off Global Network Limited, Pinewood Studios, England. The short film was also nominated and screened at the 2nd Siliguri International Short Film Festival (December 2020).

যত সহজে জন্ম সাল লেখা যাচ্ছে, ততটাই সহজে কি মৃত্যু সাল এবং তারিখ লেখা যায়? আজ থেকে প্রায় ৫০০ বছর আগে যে মহামানব পা রেখেছিলেন ধরাধামে, তাঁর মৃত্যু নিয়ে আজও কাটেনি ধোঁয়াশা। বেশ কিছু ধারণা তৈরি হয়েছে মৃত্যু নিয়ে।
" তিনি পুরী মন্দিরের গর্ভগৃহে জগন্নাথ দেবের মূর্তির মধ্যে বিলীন হয়ে গেছিলেন" অথবা " তিনি সমুদ্রের দিকে হাঁটতে হাঁটতে মিশে গিয়েছিলেন সমুদ্র মধ্যে" অথবা " তিনি খালি পা এ চলতে চলতে চোট পান এবং পরবর্তী সময় এ বিষক্রিয়া হয়ে মারা যান"। কিন্তু এই সব কিছু ছাপিয়ে যা সব চাইতে তীব্র আকারে উচ্চারিত হয়, তা হলো, " চৈতন্য দেব কে জগন্নাথ মন্দিরের ভেতর হত্যা করা হয় এবং তাঁর দেহ সরিয়ে ফেলা হয়" ।
কিছুদিন আগে ফেসবুক মাধ্যমে " সেথায় চরণ পড়ে তোমার" বইটির কথা জানতে পারি। লেখিকা দেবশ্রী চক্রবর্তী আমার ফেসবুক পরিচিত। চৈতন্য দেব এর মত একজন তোলপাড় করে দেওয়া মানুষ কে নিয়ে জানার আগ্রহ অসীম আমার। সেই উৎসাহ থেকেই বইটি সংগ্রহ করি খুব দ্রুততার সাথে। তিনশো পাতার বই। বিশ্বাস করুন আমি দিন চারেক এ শেষ করে ফেললাম বইটি।
এক কথায় অসাধারণ দলিল। ভয়ানক সাহসী পদক্ষেপ। চৈতন্য কে নিয়ে বহু গবেষক বহু কাজ করছেন, এই বই পড়ে জানতে পারি তাঁদের মধ্যে এক দুজনের করুণ পরিণতির কথা। দেবশ্রী দেবী ভয়ংকর পড়াশুনো করে লিখেছেন বইটি। বইটির মূল উদ্দেশ্য মহাপ্রভুর মৃত্যুর সম্ভাব্য কারণ খুঁজে বের করা। সবচেয়ে ভালো লাগার দিক হলো, গোয়েন্দা ঠিক যে রকম ভাবে অনেক সন্দেহের তালিকা থেকে বাদ দিতে দিতে মূল অপরাধী কে কেনো দোষী সাব্যস্ত করলেন তার বিস্তারিত ব্যাখ্যা দিয়ে থাকেন, এখানেও লেখিকা ঠিক বহু প্রচলিত মৃত্যুর কারণ গুলো কে eliminate করতে করতে ঠিক আসল কারণ কি হতে পারে তার বিস্তারিত বিবরণ দিয়েছেন।
সময় সবার কম। তাও এখনো বহু মানুষ আছেন যারা বই পড়তে ভালোবাসেন। যদি সম্ভব হয় বই টি পড়ুন, পড়ান। ভীষন ভালো লাগবে। অনেক টা রহস্য উপন্যাস এর মতন। শুরু করলে ছাড়তে পারবেন না।
যেদিন মহাপ্রভু শেষ বারের মতো পুরী মন্দিরের গর্ভগৃহে প্রবেশ করলেন সেদিন সময় ছিল বিকেল চারটে। সেদিন কোনো এক অজ্ঞাত কারণে গর্ভগৃহে প্রবেশের দরজা রাত্রি ১১ টা অবধি বন্ধ ছিল। কেনো?

A beautiful collection of melodies echoes of which have been heard in the past and will be heard in the future. When you read such a bouquet of poems, you are bound to realise that there exist some people extremely passionate about writing. You see the depth of thinking and the breadth of emotion in most of the poems. Every piece ends with a sublime thought that makes the entire work linger in your mind for days on end. It is a fulfilling experience and a privilege to be in the presence of such a profound mind. I look forward to reading more poems by the poet. I hope the writer keeps writing.
